Recordings (yīn) : Zen Lu

On the night of February 13, 2026, Zen Lu with his family returned to Shenzhen after our winter trip to Japan. Early on the 15th, they flew to Zhijiang, Hubei, to prepare for the Spring Festival. At half past three on the afternoon of the 16th, I stood alone by the Yangtze River. Cold wind swept across the vast, placid river, which flowed gently eastward.
I recorded the scene using a pair of electret microphones paired with the dze geophone. The sounds of running water, chilly wind, ship horns and firecrackers were enveloped by rich, full low frequencies. Blended together, these sounds formed a deeper river, flowing through body and toward the distance.
