Sound Map Submission & Usage Policy

1. Overview

Sound Map is a global field recording archive created by dze.labs, dedicated to documenting, preserving, and sharing the diverse soundscapes of our world. This policy governs the submission, hosting, discovery, download, and use of contributed audio recordings.

2. Submission Principles

Submissions are voluntary and unpaid unless otherwise agreed in writing. Contributors retain ownership while granting dze.labs the rights required to operate, preserve, present, and share recordings through Sound Map and related initiatives.

3. Contributor Eligibility

• Contributors must be at least 18, or have permission from a parent or legal guardian.
• Contributors must own the necessary rights or have authorization from relevant rights holders.
• Submissions must comply with applicable laws and this policy.

4. Submission Requirements

Preferred format is WAV; high-quality MP3 may also be accepted. Recommended duration is 1–20 minutes. Required metadata includes title, description and recording location. Optional material may include photographs, contributor information, and website links.

5. Content Guidelines

Submissions must not infringe third-party rights, contain unlawful or harmful material, reveal sensitive information without permission, misrepresent location or authorship, or include prohibited AI-generated audio.

6. License Granted to dze.labs

Contributors grant dze.labs a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, preserve, reproduce, process, archive, display, and distribute the recording through Sound Map and related documentation, exhibitions, education, research, and promotion.

7. End-User Usage License

Unless otherwise specified, sounds may be downloaded and adapted for personal, educational, and creative projects. Users may not resell an unmodified recording, claim ownership, misrepresent authorship, or use sounds unlawfully.

8. Preservation, Removal & Updates

Contributors may request removal from future availability. Licenses already granted to users may remain valid unless applicable law requires otherwise.

9. Interpretation and Policy Updates

dze.labs may clarify and update this policy when necessary to maintain Sound Map. Revisions take effect when published.
